Greve in Chianti tour: capital of Chianti Classico wine

It is considered the capital of Chianti classico

The most important wine production area of Tuscany, located on the river Greve to which it owes its name.

Till the medieval time the life of this town was all around the central Square, which was an important centre of communication and business for the people of the area, since in this square there was an important public market.

Anyway, originally Greve in Chianti was just a small hamlet of the most important town of Montefioralle. Its location near a main street connectingFlorence and Siena and the market have given more importance to the town of Greve in Chianti. In fact, today Montafioralle is a nice small village inhabited by 100 people were not much but the castle is left.

You might want to visit the characteristic triangular main square and the historical shops around it  in order to appreciate the area and enjoy the Chianti and its tradition.

In Greve is also the Museum of the Chianti wine and the oldest Butchery of the Chianti, called Falorni. You absolutely have to see it and taste the products they have inside, from the wild boar salami to the Finocchiona salami.

Greve in Chianti is also famous for the natality of Giovanni da Verrazzano, the first navigator to enter New York bay, remembered by the city of New York through a stone from Giovanni da Verrazzano's castle embedded in the Verrazzano bridge in New York.

Interesting for the visitors is also the biggest winery of the Chianti, where you can find more than 100 Tuscan and Italian wines to taste, a nice idea to find something different after visiting some single-brand wineries or perhaps to taste a good Italian wine other then the Tuscan one.
